Q Why I became a certified positive dog trainer

In January of 2013, an incident between my (then 4 months old) puppy and someone he trusted, ended up being a very negative experience for him. I was surprised that this person, who was a professional, did not have more knowledge about canine behaviour. I thought there had to be a better way.

After some research on the internet I came across Norma Jeanne Laurette's Canine Correspondence Studies (CCS) course. I also studied many books and DVDs and got hands-on experience by volunteering my time and assisted with puppy classes in a positive dog training facility. In addition I observed classes in dog training facilities that use a combination of reward and correction (which is just a fancy word for punishment, in my opinion) training methods.

During this time, I came to the conclusion that:
* when you train your dog using positive training techniques, he / she understands very quickly what you are asking for and is eager to learn more;
* your dog learns to think for himself / herself;
* you and your dog work as a team and you will both enjoy the training sessions.
