After-School Online Classes and Activities for Kids in Quinte
As we navigate our daily lives through this new way of life, it is hard not to reminisce the times when we woke up early to pack lunch for the kids and get them ready for school (physically) and then go to work. There was a regular routine to the weekday, such as picking up your kids from school after the end of a workday and then going to their after-school fitness activity or heading home to make dinner and help with your kids homeward afterwards.
With the looming pandemic not letting up and social distancing guidelines put in place to minimize the spread of the virus, school as we know it has taken a sharp turn and extra-curricular activities have been impacted as well.
While some in-person children’s activities have resumed in the Quinte area, many after-school activities are still temporarily closed.
Instead of simply handing over table/iPad or gaming console in hopes to keep your children entertained and self-sufficient, we’ve compiled the following educational, entertaining and engaging online resources below.
- Most music schools within the Quinte region offer online music classes for children. This includes Belleville Music Learning Centre, Long McQuade Belleville. Riverside Music in Trenton, and Michael Faulkner School of Music in Belleville.
- Kumon Belleville offers both in-person classes at their centre as well as virtual sessions for families.
- Pencil realist artist Melissa Schatzmann offers online drawing classes for beginners and more experienced artists.
- For fitness classes, the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre offers online Zoom classes that includes Family Karate which are great for parents and children.
- Escape Camp Picton also offers a one-hour live virtual remote escape experience for players aged 8+ from your own location through Zoom.
- Some of the dance schools in the area offer various dance classes on Zoom when in-person classes are suspended due to Ontario stay at home orders. This includes Dance with Miss Liz and Carol Brown School of Dance in Trenton and Tawny’s School of Dance and Quinte Ballet School of Canada in Belleville, Ontario.
Online Classes and Activities from Outside Quinte
- TVO Mathify offers free one-to-one online Grade 6-10 math tutoring to students enrolled in Ontario’s public schools.
- Outschool offers a wide variety of live online classes for kids ages 3-18, including Stop Motion Animation for Kids and Minecraft Coding Camp. Classes start from $10US.
- Khan Academy offers free online educational videos and practice exercises in math, science, computing, history, art history, economics and more.
- Udemy offers both free and paid courses on a wide variety of topics. Check out this free course that teaches kids how to play chess.
- e-learning for Kids offers a free Math World programme that contains all math learning goals from Grades K-6 plus other subjects like Science and Computer Skills.
